Mid-August holidays in Rome

To the many tourists who flock to the Eternal City, rich in art, history and culture, is increasingly complemented by Roman citizens who, for the effects of the crisis, they are going to spend August 15th, 2012 in the city. At Piazza di Spagna the season "Aspettando Ferragosto" ("Waiting August 15th") opens the festivities, and does so with a fireworks display accompanied by a concert in which the powerful voices of famous tenors, sopranos and orchestra teachers bring to the stage some famous soundtracks.

For film buffs the Roman Assumption offers, in Piazza Vittorio, the projection of Posti in piedi in paradiso, Workers, Pronti a tutto e This is England.

Art Lovers may be surprised at how the Capitoline museums do not watch the closing day on Monday to allow you to admire, in this 2012 Mid-August holidays, the masterpieces preserved in them. In particular, at the new exhibition space of the Ara Pacis/ there is the splendid exhibition dedicated to the Russian avant-garde, while at the Museo di Roma, the exhibition Ombre e Luci (1920 – 1960), Shadows and Light (1920 – 1960), presents a collection of portraits by Manlio Villoresi involving some of the most well known faces of Italian cinema, from Vittorio Gassman to Marcello Mastroianni, from Anna Magnani to Domenico Modugno, rom Eleonora Duse to Isa Pola, and many others.

Another opportunity not to miss is the opening of the Planetarium, which unusually for this Ferragosto offers up two shows for anybody, showing the celestial geography and some rudiments of astronomy.

The Casa del Jazz hosts a concert by the Argentine saxophonist Javier Girotto & Aires Tango, a project that involves the participation, as well as Girotto, Alessandro Gwis on the piano, Marco Siniscalco on bass, Michael Anger on drums.
