If you are coming with your children, you cannot miss the musical The Mermaid, adapted from Andersen's fairy tale, a play your children (and yourself) will love. The show will be on stage from 26th to 29th December at the Cassia theatre. This theatre has organized the event called "To the theater with mom and dad", in order to sensitize the younger audience of the magic of theatre.

The famous ballet "The Nutcracker", from E.T.A. Hoffman's tale, and music by Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij, is on stage at the Theatre Dell'Opera until December 30th, 2011.

The association Università Popolare a Roma Genti e Paesi organizes guided tours in the city, taking visitors and tourists to discover the hidden masterpieces of Rome. On 24th December you can book the tour which will lead you to the museum Scuderie del Qurinale, where masterpieces by Filippino Lippi and Sandro Botticelli are exhibited. Don't miss this event: the meeting for all participants is at 11,00 a.m. just opposite the entrance of the museum. The same organization has planned another guided tour on Christmas day: a visit to Palazzo Sciarra, where you can admire some of the most remarkable works belonging to the Italian renaissance and the art of 16th century, following the changes towards the new spirituality: Renaissance in Rome under the names of Michelangelo and Raffaello. The guided tour will finish at 16,30 in front of the palace.
At the same time, but in a different location, you can visit the art exhibition dedicated to the 20th century Dutch master Piet Mondrian at the Complesso del Vittoriano: here you can admire over 70 works by Mondrian and other pieces by contemporary artists who were influenced by his art.

If you are in Rome during the long weekend of Christmas (although the events will finish in April 2012) you must see the photo exhibition by Steve McCurry, one of the leading photographers of our time. You can see his pictures at the cultural centre La Pelanda; here you'll find – among other pictures – the famous 2 photos dedicated to the Afghan girl Sharbat Gula, whose face was photographed after 20 years by the author.

The artists of the Boreal circus (from December 25th, 2011 in Via Cristoforo Colombo) will put on stage a fairy tale in their own, typical way.

The typical Christmas markets are waiting for you in Rome too, among them the world famous Christmas Market of Piazza Navona, open to the public until 6th January, on the day of Epiphany. During Christmas time, or better from 3rd to 30th December, you can visit the Christmas stalls also in Piazza Vittorio, where you'll find antiques and old furnishings.

The presence of Classical music is another important feature of Christmas, an event which usually involves young and older fans. Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven and Brahms will cradle you on December 25th and 26th at the Tempietto, with the Musical festival "delle Nazioni".

As every year the International exhibition of 100 cribs is back in the beautiful halls of Bramante in Piazza del Popolo, an event dedicated to the discovery of the real symbol of Christmas, the crib.
