The festival consists of a lively series of musical events in the summer, set in the evocative courtyard of the church S. Ivo alla Sapienza, in the very heart of Rome: the 30th anniversary of this festival will be celebrated by the International Chamber Ensemble following a 15 year old tradition, with a brand new event, the Great Music nights in St. Ivo's courtyard 2011 (Cortile di S. Ivo alla Sapienza, Corso Rinascimento n. 40).
Fifteen unmissable events with striking music, including some of the greatest successes of all times and new proposals; among the everlasting hits we cannot forget the characteristic rhythms of great American music, from Gershwin to Porter, from Mancini to Bernstein, from Summertime to New York New York. These songs will meet classical and modern music like the Four Seasons by Vivaldi, Le cuatro estaciones Porteňas by Piazzolla, some Strauss' Waltzes, as well as some Arias from The merry Widow. The Tango night will be celebrated by dancers from Argentina, accompanied by some aching melodies of their country.
The great international movies will play an important role too, with some unforgettable music, like the soundtracks from Breakfast at Tiffany, The Godfather, Schindler List, the Gladiator, Titanic and Star Wars.
All the music will be performed by the International Chamber Ensemble, directed by Francesco Carotenuto, with some prestigious soloists, like the Argentinean musicians and dancers of Cuartetango Ensemble, the Soprano Burcu Bukem and the Tenor Hakan Aysev.
The courtyard, with its charming architecture and its extraordinary acoustics, offers an unforgettable experience to the audience, a real auditorium under the stars, confirming the wonderful mix between music and Roman Baroque.
