The art exhibit "I Tarocchi di Pino Settanni" (i.e. Pino Settanni's Tarots), dedicated to the great Italian photographer (1949 – 2010), is opening in Mid-September in the museum of Rome, in Trastevere. The photographer was famous for having portrayed a lot of actors and celebrities, like Guttuso, Sofia Loren, Fellini, Benigni, Rita Levi Montalcini, and for his pictures taken in Afghanistan and the Balkans during the war.
According to the artist's idea, the tarots are real persons, who are put into an exoteric contest and then photographed, the real essence of tarots' message is therefore represented by the characters' personality. Every scene is linked to a female symbolism, but for the Fool, which is impersoned by Mario Scaccia, a famous Italian actor.
The 78 pictures were realized in 1994, and they still give a vital dimension to this old game of cards, thanks to the use of original accessories which were specifically created and painted for this occasion.
The photographer, like any great photographer, was able to see what common people usually do not see. Settanni had a visionary inspiration, and he experienced all the different genres: portraits, journalism pictures, art photos, still life pictures – but he did not follow a unique scheme. He has never repeated his old works, but he kept on renewing his art, his look at the reality has always been surprising.
The exhibition includes workshops, meetings and guided tours.
